How to use Blogging in the classroom?

Think about how you would be able to use blogging in your classroom.  How could this platform benefit the learning process for your students?  Share at least 1 idea as to how you could use this, and what you would hope to accomplish by using blogging in the classroom.

    I would like to use blogging as a forum to discuss current events in science. Each week or every two weeks I could post a question about a world event that is related to science, for example, the gulf oil spill. Questions could be opinion questions that encourage students to reflect on current science/technology/socieyt issues or synthesis questions dealing with the content of the class at the time.
